Alternative Operating Systems

This page is dedicated to all the off-brand operating systems that I can find. OS Dev is a fun topic, and a surprising amount of developers spend time doing it. These are some of the more interesting ones that I could find. Note that none of these are Linux. While I love Linux, it is too popular for me to consider it “alternative.” This page is dedicated to the REALLY little guys out there.

TempleOS – If you spend a lot of time in the Computer Science side of the internet, you have probably heard of this. It was developed by Terry Davis. He was a controversial person…not helped by his mental disorder or 4Chan’s abuse. Still, I can’t help but admire his work and I wanted to put it somewhere on my site to show his legacy to anyone who has not heard of him.

ToaruOS – This os is pretty fancy, as it was developed by a single guy with his friends, K Lange. It has its own kernel, its own homemade desktop environment, and even its own programming language. Its not the most interesting OS on this list, but I think it is impressive either way.

Pony OS – That’s right, this special little hellsore on the internet is an OS for My Little Pony. It is based off of Toaru and was primarily made as an April Fools Day joke, but it is feature complete since Toaru is also feature complete. Its perfect for any degenerates out there with nothing better to do.

ReactOS – This OS is off-brand Windows. It is compatible with many 32-bit Windows programs, and is based off of leaked Windows 98 source code. Unfortunately, development is slow so I don’t believe that we will be able to run Skyrim on it anytime soon.

HaikuOS – This is one of my favorites. It is the spiritual successor to BeOS, which was a moderately popular OS during the 90s. It still has a cult following, so they continued development and rebranded when the original developers stopped working on it.
